Meet The Boat Geeks Behind Boat Geeks Radio
Our story
Boat Geeks Custom Retail Radio is founded by Daeron Katz and Darren O’Brien, the hosts of The Boat Geeks podcast and YouTube channel. Between content creation and real-world boating experience, they know the culture, the language, and the customers—and they built this service to help marine businesses sound as good as the lifestyle they serve. If you want a station that feels like the marina—not a generic playlist—welcome aboard.
Daeron Katz is co-founder of Boat Geeks Custom Retail Radio and co-host of The Boat Geeks. He brings 20+ years of music recording and production experience—including work as a studio engineer and the owner/operator of two record labels—plus 14 years of professional voice acting and voiceover.
Darren O’Brien is co-founder of Boat Geeks Custom Retail Radio and co-host of The Boat Geeks. An award-winning Creative Director and advertising agency owner, he has written, produced, and directed hundreds of successful TV and radio commercials—focused on clear messaging and creative execution that delivers measurable results.
Why it matters
Our goal is simple: make your business sound like the place boaters want to be.
A great in-store soundtrack does more than fill silence—it sets the tone, keeps customers in the space longer, and gives you a simple way to promote what’s happening right now without relying on signs, flyers, or staff remembering to mention it.
Boat Geeks Custom Retail Radio builds custom, branded internet radio stations for marinas, chandleries, and marine retailers. We don’t just stream background music—we create a station that sounds like your business: your vibe, your customers, and your waterfront lifestyle.
What makes it different is simple: we write and produce all of the music in-house by Mariner Music Co. for Boat Geeks Radio. That means your station can be license-free for the music we provide, and it gives you a consistent sound you won’t hear anywhere else. On top of that, we produce fresh promotional ads every month—professionally voiced and mixed—so your station becomes a working part of your marketing: store specials, service reminders, events, moorage availability, fuel dock updates, seasonal campaigns, and more.
